Good start to tennis season for Ashbourne teams

Despite the weather Ashbourne has started the 2012 summer season with wins for the Ladies 1st team and the Mens 2nd team.

On a night when in barely stopped raining in Ashbourne the ladies traveled to play Ockbrook and Borrowash where they won a tight match 5-4.  The pairings of Judith Johnson and Nicky Woods and Roz Hughes and Susan Longworth each won two sets and Ursula Kaul and Catherine Bailey secured the win.

The following evening the Mens 2nd team travelled to Duffield where they won 8-1in a match which was more competitive than the score suggests.  The team brought together a mix of junior and senior players and it was a testament to Ashbourne's junior development programme that players such as Matt Emerson and Ben Taylor Grout performed so well. Steve Hulme, Andy Bailey, Paul Drummond and Robert Kaul completed the line up and all competed well to land the first win of the season.

Matches for all four mens teams, two ladies teams and four mixed teams are due to start this month and Ashbourne are looking forward to another successful season.
